Triathlon

Some committed pupils attended an Eastern Bay of Plenty triathlon on Thursday. Quinn, Jack, Eva, Janae, Madison and Luke represented the middle school and did a fantastic job! Janae and Jack placed first in the team event. Quinn also placed first! You guys rock! Thank you to the fabulous parents who provided transport and supervision...it was greatly appreciated.

Summer Writing

Room five children have been writing some fabulous descriptions of summer. They presented them very cleverly inside sunglasses. Here is Mannat with her awesome example. Pretty spectacular work ...especially for a pupil to whom English is the second language! Well done Mannat!

Pepeha

It was awesome listening to the room 4 pupils practicing their pepeha this morning. Our immersion unit adds a special dynamic to our team. The immersion team are off to Ohope tomorrow to their noho marae. Have fun!

Go 4 It - Pass it

MJ has been back at Apanui, coaching us how to pass a netball effectively. We have come a long way in our skill development since our first sessions in 2011! Each middle school class will have 3-4 sessions this term to practice and refine their skills. The junior netball module has been changed to start in term one, so these drills will help our kids out when netball trials come around!

Swimming with Erin

We are lucky to have Erin here from Swim NZ. She has been putting the teachers and students through their paces, ensuring we are doing our very best at swimming! Here are room three doing some dry land exercises to improve their kicking technique...what a great abdominal workout! Remember kids...kick like Barbie!

Statistics

Statistics is one of our numeracy topics this term. Classes have been undertaking statistical investigations on a range of topics. Here are Room One finding out the most common colour of the staff cars. Teachers are also busy 'collecting data' on their classes, so that they are able to provide specific teaching and programmes that meet student needs.

What are we learning?

It was great to walk through classes today and see our students so engaged and interested in their learning. The walls are bright with student work, and pupils were desperate to share what they have been doing. What a fabulous group of learners!

Watermelon Day

Team Two had a fantastic Watermelon Day early on Friday. The day was full of integrated learning activities.
We had science activities – exploring why watermelons float, and predicting how far the splatter would go if we dropped one off the roof. In numeracy, we figured out the total cost of the watermelons we purchased, then estimated and weighed them. In literacy we wrote taste poems, and found facts about how they are grown, their history, and their nutritional value. In art, we looked at examples of watermelon carvings – then tried our own!
The day was a full of fun! What a delicious way to start the year!

Jump Jam

We love our Friday sessions in Jump Jam. Here are the middle team and leaders getting their groove on!

Meet the Team

Meet the Team
We have a large team this year, and are lucky enough to have a diverse and enthusiastic group of teachers and support staff to help cater for their needs. We welcome Miss Murray-Cawte, who is coming to us as a second year teacher from Centennial Park Primary School. We are also thrilled to welcome Mr Reade back into the middle team. Mrs Te Whata is due to extend her family later this term.
