Art Week

This week we have been having a school wide art intensive. On Monday it was great to see classes already getting stuck into the visual arts. Here are Room One with their creations. They used block paints to create the sea and sunset, and then added detail with indian ink. The branches of the trees were 'blown' using ink and straws. Well done Room One!

Ngati Awa Kapa Haka

Last week, we had a performance by the Ngati Awa Kapa Haka group. They were really inspiring and had everyone clapping, singing, and dancing along with them!

This Weeks Book Report

We have some fabulous books in our school library. Each week we will choose a child from the middle school to tell you all about their favourite! Here is Casey from Room 3.

Cross Country

We had our school cross country last Friday. Children all tried their best and competed with true Apanui spirit! The top ten children from the 8 year and older age groups will compete at the inter school competition in Ohope tomorrow.

Gymnastics

It was really exciting to see the Apanui teams competing in this years interschool competetion. They looked smart and achieved excellent results in both team and individual pursuits. Our middle school representatives competed in the year 3-5 category and did really well. They were:
Alfie Hamer, Leon Fuller, Vance Harvey, Scarlett McAdams, Abbie Wilson Ratahi, and Paris Barnett.
Alfie Hamer blew the competetion away and placed first in the boys individual event. His team (including Vance and Leon) also placed second overall. Scarlett was part of the winning girls team. Go Apanui! Our senior teams also competed brilliantly! Well done to you all!

What's Happening in Team Two?

Today I went through the middle school classes and captured what was happening. The learning was evident on the classroom walls, in student books, and in their interactions with each other and the teacher. We are all continuing our inquiry on colour and light which has been integrated into our other learning areas. Check out what we've been up to!
