Over the past two weeks we have had learning sessions with Tania from Zero Waste. We looked at ways that we can reduce the amount of waste we create. To finish this study, children were asked to make something useful from waste. There were some amazing creations. Here are some pictures of the kids in action! The photograph above is of Room Six reading 'Lester and Clyde', a blown up book about pollution. Thanks Zero Waste!

Capturing the Learning - Geometry
It was a privilege to be in classes today capturing the learning. We are focusing on geometry in numeracy, and it was wonderful to see students engaged in varied, challenging activities in all rooms. These were pushing students thinking, encouraging them to view things from a different perspective, and were fun!
Eastern Bay of Plenty Cross Country
Today the 'cream of the crop' from Apanui school went to compete at the Eastern Bay of Plenty Cross Country at Woodlands Opotiki. The top ten students from the Whakatane cluster competition got to go through to this event. Team Two had three students participating today and they ran their little hearts out! Well done kids! Apanui performed well. Here are some images of our students at this event, and last weeks cross country at Ohope.

Mana
On Monday the school had a surprise visit from an old Apanui student. Bernard Mangakahia was holidaying in Whakatane and asked if he could come and perform at his old school. We were so glad that he did! Bernard lives in Melbourne and tours schools with his Polynesian show. You can view his website at manaspirit.com.au.
His performance was amazing. Here are some short clips of his performance. Thanks Bernard! It was inspiring! I think the old hula hoops may have to come out of the P.E shed tomorrow!
